December can always be a stressful month. The holidays are in full swing and there’s lots to get done. And if you’re in school, like me, it can get even worse with exams right around the corner. That’s why I think it’s important to practice a little self-care every night so you can stay balanced and not go insane from extreme stress! A little ‘me-time’ never hurt anybody! Here are some evening self-care tips that I do on the regular.
Read for at Least 30 Minutes Before Bed
I’ve been reading every night before I go to sleep since I was in high school. As someone that struggles to fall asleep easily, reading has always instantly relaxed me. One tip is to read an actual book, rather than an electronic book. Its best to avoid looking at any screens an hour before you go to sleep. This helps your mind relax and falling asleep will become much easier. I’m currently reading The Sun and her Flowers by Rupi Kaur. So turn your laptop off, put your phone far from reach and pick up a book before bed tonight and just let yourself de-stress!
Enjoy a Warm Cup of Tea
I can definitely be classified as a tea addict. I’ll usually have 2-3 cups a day and my favorite hobby is buying new tea! During the day, I mostly have caffeinated tea to keep me going. But, if you’re looking to relax before bed, then skip out on the caffeine and enjoy a caffeine free tea. My favorites are peppermint and chamomile tea. You can also try tea with ingredients like lavender, lemon or valerian to help you unwind before bed.
Have a Mini Night-Time Routine
I honestly think that having a routine before bed makes a huge difference. I know that I like to come home and wash my makeup off, follow up with my skincare routine and get into a comfy pair of pyjamas. I like my routine to be short and simple, but not rushed. I take my time and really try to enjoy just taking care of myself. Cause what’s more important that just taking some time out to take care of yourself, right? So, pamper yourself a little before bed and feel great when you wake up the next morning!
SLEEP! This is the most important tip that I can share with anyone! I cannot stress how important it is to be getting a full-night’s sleep. I know that if I get less than 7-8 hours of sleep, then I’m a walking zombie the next day. Sleep well and you’ll wake up feeling rejuvenated and ready to get things done!
